Clean Naturally with Homemade Products

Make effective and inexpensive natural cleaners with common household ingredients that will benefit the environment and save you money.

Vinegar is a liquid usually produced by oxidation of the alcohol in wine or cider and has a high acid level, which can help loosen dirt, clean grease, remove stains and deodorize.

Borax (sodium, oxygen, and boron) is a compound mined from the ground that is converted into a powder that has chemical properties that contribute to cleaning stains and mildew.

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is minerals nahcolite, and trona mined from the ground and turned into baking soda, which can remove odors and stains.

Salt (sodium chloride) is a naturally occurring substance processed from salt mines and seawater that can absorb grease and scrub surfaces.

Castile soaps are made from olive, nut, or vegetable oils and clean various surfaces with an earth-friendly touch.

Here are instructions on how to make an all-purpose cleaner and a scrub powder.

ALL PURPOSE CLEANER

2 Tablespoons White Vinegar

1 Teaspoon Borax

16 Ounces of Hot Water

¼ Cup Castile Liquid Soap

16 Ounce Spray Bottle

Mix vinegar and borax in the bottle.

Fill with water and shake.

Add liquid soap.

Add 10-20 Drops of Orange Essential Oil. (optional)

Shake well until mixed.

SCOURING POWDER

½ Cup Baking Soda

½ Cup Borax

½ Cup Salt

11 Ounce Shaker Container

Mix all three ingredients.

Add to the shaker container.

Now all you need is a 100% biodegradable, natural cotton, chlorine-free, unbleached Skoy cloth or scrub, and you will be ready to take on that cleaning task.
